David Davis - Percussion
David
was born in 1958 to a Big Band Jazz Piano player and a
Piano Teacher. Yet with all this exposure, he couldn’t
play the piano to save his life. At 5 years of age he
saw his Dad’s best friend setting up and then playing
the drums and was hooked. The child simply sat down and
began playing.Shortly after, the
family moved to Arizona and David played the drums all
through Grade School. Growing up in a very musical
home, there was constant exposure to many great
artists. There was constant exposure to the likes of
Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Dorsey, buddy Rich
and Gene Krupa
Although he had no background or
training in Jazz, David’s Father insisted he audition
for the High School Jazz Band. David knocked a senior
out of his chair because of his talent. He played for 4
years in an ‘AAA’ Competition Jazz Band.
At 16, David began playing in bars
with a rock band. The first gig was a topless bar
called The Zoo. He married at 22 and playing took
second chair to life and a job in the construction field
doing framing for 12 years.
Moving to Lake Tahoe in 1980, David
took up giggling in earnest, playing in many locations
around Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area. Then in 1985 he
returned to Phoenix, started his own business and had 3
children, trying to fit music in this mix the best he
could.
In 2000, David gave up his business
for music full time. Working in a music store full time
and making music whenever and wherever possible. This
is where he is today.
