Born and raised in
Los Angeles, David came from an artistically creative
family. His father, a maker of fine furniture, mother a
designer of beautiful quilts, older brothers John, an
artist and painter and Jose-Luis a sculptor and
ceramicist. It was no wonder David had some type of
creative ability within.
Coming from an
artistic and somewhat eclectic family, it was no
surprise, the various styles of music which would be
heard in the household. From Mexican Folk Ballads to
Hard Rock, from Salsa and Latin Rhythms to Fusion Jazz,
from Mariachis to Progressive Rock…..well, you know were
we are going with this. Around David’s 13th
birthday, he was given an old Flamenco Style (Tijuana
Special) guitar. Taught by an old friend of his father,
David quickly found his niche in the family art
foundation. With variations of musical styles, David
noticed not just the different aspects of the musical
melodies, but more importantly, the foundation of the
music and how, without foundation, the melodies may not
work out the way they should.
While listening to
the musical stylings of artists like Stanley Clarke,
Jaco Pastorius, Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, John Paul
Jones, just to name a few… David came to the conclusion
that the bass was without a doubt the direction in which
his musical creativity would take him.
30 years and an
extensive musical career in the Los Angeles area later,
David finds himself playing with the ever-so-talented
likes of Michael Sebring and Steven Holland, to make up
the 3rd of beggars clothes. Though
older and relocated, David has not forgotten the need
for foundation. This is evident in the music of beggars clothes, in which the groups’ chemistry
allows for each player to be heard. The original
melodies are strengthened by David’s unique yet laid
back style of bass playing and will make you walk away
singing to yourself with a smile.
